There is a new show in town and Universal Studios couldn't be happier about it. The Blue Man Group, originally from New York City , has stationed itself in Universal CityWalk for the time being.
If you haven't heard of them yet, the Blue Man Group is a trio of men who put on a show unlike any other in the world. They aren't just ordinary men; these guys are bald, covered with bright blue paint, dressed in plain black clothes, and completely silent throughout the show. If that doesn't spark your interest, imagine a spectacle of free flying food, paint, and various substances.
Audience members in the front row are actually given ponchos to wear to protect them from the many objects and liquids that might be sprayed, squirted or thrown off stage throughout the performance. Blue Man Group's interaction with the audience doesn't stop there. In past shows, the three blue performers have even been known to use Twinkies in an attempt to create a fancy dinner for an audience member.
In addition to the social aspects of the show, the Blue Man Group is ultimately a musical show. The three main performers don't use regular instruments. You will never see a violin or a trumpet on this stage. Instead they whip out PVC pipes, a stripped down piano, ball bearings and the list goes on.
The creators of The Blue Man Group are Phil Stanton, Chris Wink, and Matt Goldman. The three were out to create a show that was not only unusually entertaining, but also sent out a message. The party-like atmosphere in a Blue Man Group show is designed to transport audience members back to their childhood when imagination ruled. The show also has some things to say about the discovery of technology and its effect on the social isolation of many individuals.
The Blue Man Group is a welcome addition to the already spectacular list of attractions in the Orlando area. The shows presence is expected to rival that of Cirque Du Soleil at Downtown Disney. While Cirque Du Soleil might not be happy about the new kid on the block, Orlando residents and visitors certainly aren't complaining. Those being said, why not take advantage of having these two great shows in one town by buying discount tickets to both on DWTickets.com!
